1. Purpose of the App
The app is used to configure and read Lorenz radio water meters. Communication takes place exclusively via the infrared interface of the water meter – not via radio. An external infrared reading head is required for reading the meter and is connected to the end device via USB or Bluetooth.
When you use the app, we process personal data relating to you and our app accesses information on your device. Personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.
Because protecting your privacy when using the app is important to us, the following information explains which personal data we process, which information on your device we access when you use the app and how we handle this data. We also inform you of the legal basis for processing your data and, where processing is necessary for the purposes of our legitimate interests, of those legitimate interests.
You can access this privacy policy at any time via the “Settings / Privacy Policy” menu item within the app.
2. Processing of Personal Data
When downloading the app, certain required information is transmitted to the app store you have selected, such as Google Play or the Apple App Store. In particular, this may include your username, email address, customer number associated with your account, the time of download, payment information and the individual device identifier. This data is processed exclusively by the respective app store and is outside our control.
Within the app itself, no personal data is processed, stored or disclosed. There is no registration within the app, no storage of user profiles and no transmission of personal usage or location data.
3. Licensing System
A licence is required to use certain functions. The licence provided by Lorenz is entered into the app as text or scanned as a QR code. The app itself processes only the licence key, which does not contain any personal reference.
As part of the licence application process, we process the following personal data concerning you: name, email address and, where applicable, telephone number. We store this data until the purpose for which it was collected no longer applies, but no longer than the expiry of any applicable retention periods under commercial or tax law.
4. Permissions Required by the Android Version
The following permissions are required for the app to function:
Location: Location permission is required in order to establish a Bluetooth connection with the infrared reading head. No location data is collected, stored or transmitted.
Nearby devices / Bluetooth: This permission is required to establish a connection with an infrared reading head.
Files and documents: This permission is required to export CSV files in which water meter consumption data is stored.
Camera: This permission is used exclusively to scan the QR code of a licence. Alternatively, the licence key can be entered as text.
Usage data is processed and used to provide the service. This data processing is justified because the processing is strictly necessary within the meaning of Section 25 (2) No. 2 TTDSG in order to provide the app service expressly requested by you, or because it is necessary for the performance of the contract between you as the data subject and us pursuant to Art. 6 (1) lit. b GDPR for use of the app.
5. Processing of Meter Data
The data read via the infrared reading head, such as consumption values, relates exclusively to the water meter and not to individuals. The app does not assign this data to households or individuals. The data is stored exclusively locally on your device.
6. Use of Google Firebase / Google Analytics
This app does not collect personal data such as names or email addresses. To improve the app, we use "Google Analytics (Firebase)", a service provided by Google LLC Ireland:
Google Ireland Limited
Gordon House, Barrow Street
Dublin 4

Anonymous data relating to app usage is collected, such as which functions are used, frequency of use, crashes and approximate location. The approximate location is derived from your network connection and is not determined from exact GPS coordinates via your device's location service.
This data is used exclusively for statistical purposes and helps us optimise the app. Google may transfer this data to the USA. Google is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which ensures an adequate level of data protection.
Note: You can restrict data collection through the appropriate device settings or stop it by uninstalling the app. The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6 (1) lit. a GDPR, namely your express and voluntary consent.
7. Transfers to Third Countries
If personal data is transmitted to external servers in a third country, we have concluded data processing agreements with the respective processor which provide guarantees that the requirements of data protection law will be complied with.
Your data will only be processed in a third country if the requirements of Art. 44 et seq. GDPR are met. If you expressly consent to the transfer of personal data to third countries, the processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 49 (1) lit. a GDPR.
Alternatively, your data may be processed on the basis of specific safeguards or an EU adequacy decision, such as the Data Privacy Framework (DPF). If no adequacy decision exists for the third country, EU Standard Contractual Clauses may be agreed, where appropriate in conjunction with additional safeguards, in order to ensure compliance with the level of data protection required by the European Union.
8. Open-Source Components
The app uses various open-source libraries. A complete list, including the applicable licences, is displayed within the app.
9. Provision of the App

The Android version is provided via the Google Play Store. Google may process additional data in this context. Google's privacy policy applies:

10. Disclosure of Data
There is no disclosure of personal data to third parties because the app itself does not process personal data.
11. Storage Period
As the app does not store personal data, there is also no long-term storage of personal data within the application. Files exported by the user, such as historical consumption values, are stored exclusively on the user's device and remain under the user's own control.
12. Your Rights as a User
As no personal data is processed by the app itself, no specific data subject rights, such as rights of access or deletion, arise in relation to the app itself. However, data subject rights apply to data processed by Lorenz as part of the licence application, such as an email address used for communication. You can contact
